I saw Radiohead at the All Points West Festival (August '08). I had never seen them before and they are my brother's favorite band so I had to see what all the hype was about. He's been telling me for the longest time how "amazing" and "unbelievable" they are. So again, I had to see for myself. I'll be honest, I know one Radiohead song (Karma Police). I've never been to a concert where I only knew one song. I could only imagine how exciting THAT would be...standing there, not knowing the words to any songs. Well, the Radiohead comes on (I'm about 25 yards from the stage) and words cannot describe how amazing and truly talented this band is. The light show was unreal. It was so trippy and mind-blowing. Thom York's voice is out of this world. There is no other singer on the planet who sounds as good. Jonny on lead guitar is a genius. At one point, he was playing the guitar with a violin bow and then making all these funky noises with the foot pedals. There's a reason why he's ranked among the Top 100 Guitarists of all time. Radiohead is not a concert...it's a show. It's an event. It's an experience. If you want to really experience and feel music, talent and showmanship, than Radiohead is for you. Who cares if you don't know the songs. Fork up the money, and go see the best live band today.

solar powed HD verii tubes at Radiohead show

Radiohead kicked off the second leg of its US tour with a sold out massive show in Indy last night. They opened with 15 step instead of All I need. The sound in the good seats was so so for a Radiohead concert: We could not hear Colin (bass) pst the low E string until the 2nd encore (the last 3rd of national anthem). (more trebble on the bass please.....)

The all digital video and light show was solar powered (2 18 wheelers filled with batteries)!
Your basic 21 century Rubix Cube of lights that static immages cannot do justice. I guess you'll just have to pony up the funds to see it live. It rivals anything Floydian.

I was never bored. I danced in place and sand along until I lost my voice.

They played a great new version of the Gloaming but skipped Paranoid Android.
Thom was in good voice and he did some entertaining "Thom dancing" (he was in a good mood and appreciated the reception the band got.) Johnny tuned in some nasty right wing radio banter on his AM reciever during the intro to national anthem (the crowd howeled).

Continuity glitches: The video close up of Toms face on "you and who's army" seemed to be pre recorded as the striped shirt worn by Johnny did not match what was on screen. Thom forgot the words to One of the older tunes but muddled by for half a verse (Pyramid Song). He did a great job on the drums duing Bangers n' Mash but needed

(did I miss something?) Oh... the main guitar part house of cards was canned (thom was playing muted swipes on top of the track ) and Johnny and Ed were playing the droaning tid bits on top.

Well woth the 41/2 hr dive each way and the 970 dollars in scalpers fees for the 7 of us. The pad thai at the restaurant before the show was so so. The VIP parking is well worth the extra 30 bucks when leaving. The alternative rout suggested by the venue saved us a 45 minute wait. The opening act was great and I wish i bought one of their T shirts with the three eyed cats.

Did anyone else smell burning rope or was that just my own personal hallucination?)

Wonderful Show

I've seen Radiohead three times now, and this show rates with the best. I think their performance at the Field Day Festival is the best I have seen them do. However, their show Wednesday at the White River Amphitheater, delivered what we expect from one of the best bands in the world. The setlist heavily favored their new record, but Kid A was also well represented with six songs. Radiohead's "classic" records, The Bends and OK Computer only comprised four songs, but they were well chosen. "Lucky", "Climbing Up the Walls" and "No Surprises" from OK and "Street Spirit" from the Bends. Their stage design is wonderful and hypnotic, and and their sound is well mixed and balanced. Most will probably remember the awkward moment as Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood struggled to play Faust/Arp, restarting it several times. It is charming when icons reveal that they are human and fallible, but it is remarkable when they also reveal the mastery of what they can accomplish. Radiohead is truly remarkable.
And if you like Radiohead, check out Adam Smith and Your Invisible Hands from Seattle, Washington, USA.

This show was by far the greatest concert that I have ever been to. There was absolutely no disappointments during the entire time attending there (except when it ended). The way that Radiohead performs live sounds exactly like the record, and their stage setup was astonishing. This was one of the best times I have had in my life and I look forward to the next time that Radiohead comes to town.
